Design Night Boston
Launching a signature event series at the Autodesk BUILD Space, drawing cross-industry audiences and highlighting design technology innovation.
In my role at the Autodesk BUILD Space, I was responsible for building partnerships and programming that would connect Autodesk to Boston’s innovation community and deepen cross-industry collaboration and understanding. And also programs that would be fun. Fun is important.
That’s why we launched the Design Night series in Boston. This is an iconic Autodesk event format started in their San Francisco headquarters: a fun theme showcasing innovative research, an exciting speaker at the intersection of design and technology, great food and drinks, and hands-on design and crafting activities that let attendees learn more about the technologies they were experiencing.
We launched this event series in Boston in May of 2017, with Ben Uyeda as our keynote speaker. Ben is an architect and the founder of some really exciting companies: HomeMade Modern, a media organization that does incredible DIY videos; FreeGreen (acquired by Houseplans.com in 2014), a database of sustainable home plans and specifications that you can buy, download and bring to a contractor to build a beautiful and green home; and Zero Energy Design, an award-winning architecture firm with deep expertise in sustainable technologies.
This event sold out, and was a whole bunch of fun. We followed it up with another one a few months later: a technology-forward fashion show with Project Runway winner Erin Robertson. This event series is still running and drawing large audiences in Boston.
